ABOUT GILLIAN AT BEAN SOCIAL MEDIAS
My name is Gillian and I am a Social Media Manager and Social Media Content Creator. I graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studies with a minor in Geography and an extended minor in Communications. I hold multiple communication, graphic design, and web design certificates.
I am currently attending Royal Road Univerity for a Master of Arts in Environment and Management. This is one of two businesses I own and operate, the other being a custom vinyl shop that specializes in quippy and nostalgic designs called Bean Stuck Designs.
As you probably noticed, both businesses I own have "Bean" in their names, the reason for this is Bean is a nickname my dad gave me at a young age. I wanted to separate myself from the typical names that social media agencies give themselves and personalize my business to me.
When I began my undergraduate studies, I joined multiple freelance websites to help offset my student loan debt. Over the course of 2.5 years, I successfully worked and remained active on these platforms. However, when I secured a job in my field, I temporarily deactivated my accounts.
I graduated during the peak of Covid, which brought significant challenges to the job market. With the world at a standstill, I saw a great opportunity to reignite my freelancing career. As businesses moved online, I recognized the need for captivating and unique content that could help brands not just in my local area but globally. I reactivated my accounts on various freelance platforms and got straight to work.
Later, I moved to a new city to pursue a Master of Arts degree. To reduce the stress of managing a part-time job alongside my studies, I decided to fully commit to social media marketing and launched my own business. This path resonated with me because I genuinely enjoy helping small businesses enhance their social media presence and achieve greater success.
Over the past seven years, I’ve gained extensive experience working with clients across diverse industries. To stay ahead in today’s online market, I’ve continually upgraded my skills by completing numerous workshops and online courses in Social Media Marketing, Social Media Management, and Content Creation. Additionally, I’ve deepened my expertise in platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest, ensuring I can deliver the best results for my clients.
