ABOUT BEAN
My name is Gillian and I am a Social Media Manager and Social Media Content Creator. I graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley with a Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Studies with a minor in Geography and an extended minor in Communications. I hold multiple communication, graphic design, and web design certificates.
I am currently attending Royal Road Univerity for a Master of Arts in Environment and Management. This is one of two businesses I own and operate, the other being a custom vinyl shop that specializes in quippy and nostalgic designs called Bean Stuck Designs.
As you probably noticed, both businesses I own have "Bean" in their names, the reason for this is Bean is a nickname my dad gave me at a young age. I wanted to separate myself from the typical names that social media agencies give themselves and personalize my business to me.
While starting my undergrad I signed up on multiple freelance websites to alleviate some of the student loan debt. I successfully worked and remained active for 2.5 years on these sites. When I found a job in my field, I temporarily deactivated my accounts. I graduated peak Covid, which meant the job market was slim. While the world was shut down, I decided what a great opportunity to start back up with freelancing. With everything shut down and being moved online, I knew I could help by creating captivating and unique content for businesses and brands around the world. I put myself on multiple freelance websites and got to work. Over the past 3 years, I have gained a lot of experience working with clients in many different industries. I have also upgraded my skill set to better suit today's online market. I have gone through multiple Social Media Marketing, Social media Management, and Content Creation workshops. As well as, completed many online courses to better understand Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. I have recently moved to a new city to pursue a Master of Arts degree. To lessen the stress of a part-time job while in school, I have decided to make social media management and content creation one of my main sources of income ( the other is my vinyl shop). I chose to do this because I love helping small businesses step up their social media game and elevate their businesses to new heights!
